"No Matter How Small"

Celebration of Life Event

“When a child loses his parent, they are called an orphan. When a spouse loses her or his partner, they are called a widow or widower. When parents lose their child, there isn’t a word to describe them.” Since 1988, President Reagan deemed October as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. More specifically, October 15th is the day we set aside to pay tribute to those we know what have suffered through this tragedy and to honor the lives of those little ones lost all too soon. This year, we will be holding our service on Friday, October 14th.

2024 Date Coming Soon

Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 3912 W. 4th Street, Waterloo, IA 50702

This Ecumenical Service will provide a burial of the infants in the care of Hagarty-Waychoff- Grarup Funeral Service as well as a place for anyone touched by Miscarriage and/or Infant Loss to join in honoring the lives of those they have lost. The prayer and committal service will last about 40 minutes but all are welcome to stay as long as they need for their own healing.

Why Support this Event?

You may have already been aware, and you might not have… this subject can be difficult to approach – so often we dismiss the loss, or struggle finding the right words to say; leaving those who have been through a miscarriage, stillbirth, or loss of a baby after birth feeling very isolated and unsure of how to cope with and grieve through the experience. This doesn’t help these women and families through the healing process after sustaining this kind of loss. We wanted to create a place to remember, to grieve, and to celebrate each little life, “no matter how small”. A place where we know we are not alone in our pain. A place where we can start to heal.

In honor of these women and the families affected, let’s join together and start opening our hearts to this conversation. Please join us on Friday, October 14th in person or in prayer to show your support and respect for what they’ve been through, to remember the little life or lives you might have only gotten to know for a short while, or to show others you’re ready to open the door of communication and support in the healing process for ourselves, our sisters, mothers, daughters, and friends.

That pregnancy mattered.
That baby mattered.

That loss was very real, and what you went through matters.
Let’s stand together and remember.
